Bulgarian cable co Eurocom adds to acquisition rally
Bulgarian cable operator Eurocom Cable MB has notified to the Bulgarian telecom regulator its plans to acquire two cable companies based in Plovdiv, the nation's second largest city.
The acquisition targets, OSG Intercom and Intercom Bor Sat, have an insignificant share of the ISP market in the Plovdiv area, said Eurocom Cable MB executive director Petyo Staikov.
The two operators pipe Internet to subscribers in small area towns and villages with a combined market share of less than 1%.
Eurocom Cable MB last week secured regulatory approval for its purchase of five small cable operators: Gabrovo Cable, Cablesat 95, Color Sat, KSVSAT and Niki 2000.
The latest acquisitions increase the market share of the operator to 12.12.5%.
According to Staikov, Bulgaria's nationwide household cable penetration is around 75%.
