EU to donate EUR 22 m to Serbian universities
The European Union (EU) will donate EUR 22 million for infrastructure revamp of 27 higher education institutions in Serbia, thereby creating conditions for the universities to play a key role in the country's economic growth, it was said at a ceremony held at Belgrade University's headquarters on Wednesday.
The donation is dedicated to the state universities in Novi Pazar, Nis, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Kragujevac for adaptation and renovation of classrooms, demonstration rooms, laboratories, purchase of new equipment, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Zarko Obradovic said at a meeting that was also attended by Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert.
Serbia's economy is not strong enough, and the country does not have enough education resources, the minister said, noting that any assistance is more than welcome.
The donation will significanly assist the Ministry in upgrading scientific capacities, especially in fostering technical innovation and research, which should lead to economic progress, Degert said.
