Old bridge at Beska open to traffic
The old bridge on the River Danube near Beska was opened to traffic on Friday, completing the full motorway profile along the entire route of Corridor XI from Serbia's border with Hungary to Belgrade.
As announced by Minister of Transport Aleksandar Antic, the bridge was opened to traffic at midday with no ceremony, said a statement from the company Roads of Serbia.
With the rehabilitation of the old bridge and access roads now complete, the level of traffic safety is significantly higher, and motorists may use the motorway all the way from the Hungarian border to the Batajnica interchange.
The works were carried out by Serbia's Mostogradnja and Vojput-Subotica, under supervision by UK's Scott Wilson Company, Serbia's Mostprojekt and Sweden's WSP.
The high level of the works' quality will prolong the lifespan of the old bridge structure, which can now be utilised effortlessly without major investments, the statement said.
