E-communications market generates EUR 1.6 bn in revenues

The market of electronic communications and postal services in Serbia generated revenues of around EUR 1.6 billion last year, Director of the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL) Milan Jankovic has said.

Electronic communications accounted for EUR 1.5 billion, and postal services for EUR 125 million of the sum, Jankovic said at a press conference, presenting preliminary results of the survey on the market of telecommunications and postal services in 2014.




The e-communications sector makes up around 4.5 percent of Serbia's GDP, he said, underscoring that investments in the sector stood at EUR 186 million last year.




The largest revenues in the e-communications sector were made by mobile telephony- 57 percent, fixed telephone services - 22 percent and Internet- 11 percent, and the distribution of media content- eight percent, Jankovic said.




When it comes to postal services, Serbia has 42 operators in the sector, one of them offering a universal postal service. Their revenues totaled EUR 125.13 million, reflecting a rise of 3.8 percent in comparison to 2013.
