Urban outcasts of a rich metropolis

David Harvey in an interview in Spiegel analyses how the Urban environment in the big cities is planned and constructed in such a way as to exclude the poor. The different projects , Museums, monuments , art fairs, Olympic games etc destined to make these cities vibrant centers of art or commerce and create landmarks that would attract international tourism. For Harvey that kind of Urbanization is structured in a way to exclude the modest citizen of the city “ I replace the traditional concept of class struggle with the struggle of all those who produce and reproduce urban life.” How can one love a city which is not friendly to its citizen? Only of addressed to the rich or the tourist it is worth only as short visit site and not as model of everyday life.
