Turkish Despotism clash with Civil Society

Despite the political turn of the bloody protests in Taksim Square in Istanbul , the CHP opposition taking the lead, it seems that the reaction to the huge urban project has more to it than a high profile political clash. The reaction to Erdogan despotism, even if at times beneficial to Turkish modernization and development, is creating a democratic deficit too important to be sacrificed for any side benefit. Civil Society is reacting to the demolition of the Gezi Park but in fact it reacts to the paternalistic authoritative regime demanding more participation.
