Gentiloni, anti-ISIS coalition meeting in Rome mid-January

A meeting of the international anti-ISIS coalition will be held in Rome in the second half of January, Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni told a joint press conference with UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura.

On this occasion, added Gentiloni, under discussion will be strategies ''against Daesh without automatically feeling nostalgic about the idea that thousands and thousands of soldiers on the ground resolve crises''. Speaking about the decision of US President Barack Obama not to send ground troops to Syria, the foreign minister explained that ''America will be more present but without the illusion that interventionism is the solution''.

''If it is true that one must and can fight Daesh with military force, it cannot be beaten without promoting, facilitating and pushing for a political solution in Syria'', Staffan de Mistura said.
