Britain's Apace Media to own 8 Bulgarian cable channels within 12 months
Accordng to Dnevnik Britain's Apace Media plc, an intellectual property and branded content company, said it is preparing to start broadcasting 2 new cable TV channels.
One of the new offerings, Diema Family, will be available to cable subscribers within a month.
The other new channel will compete with pop folk broadcaster Planet which, according to polling agency Alpha Research, ranks as the third most-watched channel outside Sofia.
The company said it plans to own 8 Bulgarian cable channels within 12 months.
Apace Media has swiftly carved a hefty slice of Bulgaria's cable TV market with a quick succession of acquisitions.
In late 2005, Apace bought Diema Vision and Bulgarian media company Television MM OOD.
Television MM owns the MM Records recording company and music TV channels MM and M2.
Diema Vision owns cable TV channels Diema Plus, Diema 2 and Diema Extra and has been licensed to broadcast a fourth one, Alexandra TV. Diema's channels cover sport, films, news and pay-TV/pay-per-view. In addition to television rights, Diema holds the exclusive broadcasting rights of the English Premiership League, and the French and Spanish soccer championships.
