Turkish defense companies show off at London fair
The Defense Systems and Equipment International Exhibition (DSEi), the world’s most prestigious defense exhibition, opened yesterday at the ExCel international exhibition and conference center in London.
This year Turkey is being represented at the fair for the first time, with 18 Turkish companies operating stands to promote their goods to visitors. The Undersecretariat for the Defense Industry (SSM) and the Foundation to Strengthen the Turkish Armed Forces (TSKGV) are also participating in the fair.
Turkish companies occupy a 1,000-square-meter area within the 34,000-square-meter fairgrounds. The participating companies produce military equipment, from missiles to combat boots and from camouflage to heavy trucks. A few important names among these firms are Target, Havelsan, Roketsan, MKE, Otokar, Sarsılmaz, YSD, HEMA, Tisaş, Milsoft and Spectra.
Undersecretary for the Defense Industry Murad Bayar, who provided considerable support to Turkish companies for the fair, said there had been “inspiring developments” in the domestic defense industry and that a wide variety of products are being turned out for the international market. Speaking to the press at the fair, Bayar underlined their interest in international events like the DSEi. These fairs are very important for securing a place in foreign markets, Bayar noted, adding that the Middle Eastern and Asian markets are priorities for the Turkish defense industry. Bayar also asserted that London has exceptional significance for Turkish weapons producers and defense companies since this prestigious fair contributes to the global fame of the participating companies. “With this fair, we are bringing our defense manufacturers together with all the large and small actors of the global defense industry,” he said.
A total of 1,352 companies from 37 countries are participating in the DSEi fair.
