By introducing excise taxes on LPG, Croatia has become the European country with the most expensive LPG. Because of that, the Croatian LPG Association requests an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and ministers of economy and finance, Djuro Popijac and Ivan Suker respectively.
In the letter to the PM, the Association claims that by introducing the excise tax and by favoring Ina and MOL through the pricing policy, Croatia is in fact losing the only alternative, mass consumed and environmentally friendly fuel that is available in the quantities sufficient even for export. They think that such a “subversive policy” is jeopardizing 2,000 jobs and revolting 75,000 drivers who had made a major investment in adapting their vehicles. They therefore want the part of the Excise Tax Act pertaining to LPG removed.
The LPG Association hopes Croatia will not see the destiny of Slovenia, which was fined by the EU with EUR 80m for not encouraging environmentally friendly fuels in transport.
